Welcome to
Snettisham 45 is a West Norfolk village’s project to remember and honour its 45 sons who gave their lives serving this country 100 years ago, in the First World War.
It has 3 main goals:
Truly remembering – Extensive research is taking place to make the 45 ‘real’ again rather than names on an ageing monument. 100 years on from their ultimate sacrifice, we will know their lives, loves and homes once more.
Truly re-affirming our commitment – Inspired by the words of the battlefield ‘soldiers poem’ (opposite) and the amazing work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in signposting where our fallen lay, 100 years on Snettisham is literally going ‘the extra mile’ and visiting the resting places of each of the 45. At each, a prayer will be said by our local vicar and a wreath of Norfolk Lavender and Rosemary bound in a Snettisham Torc will be laid along with personal letters from the County/Parish and the village school. This is a significant undertaking covering 25 sites, 7 countries, 3 continents and several thousand miles.
Truly honouring – we hope through our ambition and activity to raise as much money as we can in the name of our 45 for two relevant pan-UK military charities – The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
